Meet Our Instructors

Karla Coldwell
Jazz and Tap
Originally from Saskatchewan, Miss Karla brings a wealth of experience and passion to Stoney Brook Dance Company. She has extensive training and is fully certified in both the ADAPT and Al Gilbert syllabi, giving her a strong foundation to guide dancers in a variety of styles. As Artistic Director, she has been an integral part of SBDC for over 25 years, helping shape it into a place where dancers of all ages feel welcome, challenged, and inspired.

One of her proudest moments as Studio Director came when the SBDC team received the Spirit Award at the Thunderstruck Dance Competition—an honor that recognized not only the dancers’ talent, but also their kindness, encouragement, and support for fellow competitors. For Miss Karla, these values are just as important as strong technique, and they are at the heart of everything she teaches.

In the classroom, Miss Karla’s energy is contagious. She strives to leave her students feeling joyful, motivated, and confident after every class, fostering a love of dance that lasts far beyond the studio walls. With her decades of experience, she continues to inspire both her students and fellow teachers, leading by example with grace, creativity, and dedication.

Steph Martel
Hip Hop and Lyrical
Miss Steph began dancing at the age of three and has trained extensively in ballet, jazz, and tap, as well as lyrical, contemporary, musical theatre, and hip hop. Over the years, she has completed numerous dance exams across multiple styles, developing a strong technical foundation and a love for performance. Her dance journey has also taken her to competitions in various cities, where she gained valuable experience performing for different adjudicators and audiences.

She has been recognized with special awards and scholarships that celebrate both her technical skill and performance artistry. After graduating, Miss Steph continued her training at Drop In Dance in Winnipeg, further developing her creativity and artistry as an adult dancer.
​
As a teacher, Miss Steph strives to create a positive, supportive environment where students feel encouraged to grow, challenge themselves, and find joy in the art of dance. Whether in the studio or on stage, she is passionate about helping dancers develop not only their technique but also their confidence and individuality.

Angelica Malo
Ballet, Pointe, Pre School and Jazz
Miss Angelica began dancing at the age of three and quickly developed a love for the art form, with a special passion for ballet and character dance. Over the years, she has studied a wide range of styles, including jazz, modern, character, and various folk dances. She is a proud graduate of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s Teacher Training Program, earning her Cecchetti Associate Certificate of Ballet.

In addition to her Associate Certificate, Miss Angelica holds her Advanced 1 Cecchetti certificate and has received certifications from the Spanish Dance Society in both flamenco and Spanish dance. She has taught in studios across Manitoba, working with a variety of styles, age groups, and levels, and continues to grow as an artist by performing with Druzhba Ukrainian Dance Ensemble and The Bolero Dance Theater alongside her teaching career.

As an instructor, Miss Angelica is eager to share her knowledge and passion for dance with her students. She strives to guide them in developing strong technique while also fostering a deep love and appreciation for the art of dance.

Kiera Loeppky
Tap, Lyrical, Ballet, Jazz
Miss Kiera trained at Stoney Brook Dance Company, where she developed strong skills across a variety of styles, with a particular strength and passion for tap. Her dedication to her craft earned her a scholarship to attend a summer intensive in Chicago, where she was able to learn from world-class instructors and expand her knowledge of dance.
Through her years at SBDC, Miss Kiera has gained valuable performance experience in competitions and recitals, building both her technical ability and her stage presence. She continues to refine her artistry and remains committed to growing as both a dancer and a teacher.
In the studio, Miss Kiera brings her love for rhythm, musicality, and precise technique to every class. She strives to create an upbeat, encouraging environment where students feel inspired to push themselves while enjoying the process of learning and performing.

Avery Kellet
Musical Theatre, Open, Pre School, Tap
With a strong background in theatre, Miss Avery is an accomplished performer, singer, and dancer who brings vibrant energy to both the stage and the studio. Her talent has been recognized through multiple awards for her solos at dance competitions, reflecting her expressive performance style and technical skill.
Miss Avery is also known for her encouraging nature, always uplifting those around her and fostering a sense of teamwork and positivity. Her diverse experience in performing arts allows her to connect with students in a unique way, helping them explore both the technical and expressive sides of dance.
In her classes, Miss Avery inspires students to embrace performance as a form of storytelling, building not only their dance technique but also their stage presence and self-confidence. She is passionate about creating an environment where every dancer feels valued and empowered to shine.

Kayla Gerber
Acro
Miss Kayla has been dancing for most of her life, beginning at the age of two and joining the competitive team at thirteen. Over the years, she has trained in a variety of styles, with a special passion for acro. Her dedication and skill have been recognized with multiple awards, including two Golden Tickets at Dance Canada for her acro solos, as well as a scholarship and the highest-scoring acro routine for her solo last season.

In addition to her achievements on stage, Miss Kayla has been sharing her love of dance with younger students since she began assisting in classes at the age of fourteen. This experience has helped her develop a patient, encouraging teaching style that motivates dancers to challenge themselves and reach their potential.

Miss Kayla is a certified Acrobatic Arts Instructor and is excited to work with our acro dancers this year, bringing her enthusiasm, creativity, and technical knowledge to every class. She hopes to inspire her students not only to grow as dancers, but also to discover the confidence and joy that comes from expressing themselves through movement.

Kailey Claeys
Ballet, Jazz, Tap and Acro
Miss Kailey discovered her love for dance at the age of six when she began training at Stoney Brook Dance Company. She has studied a wide range of styles, including tap, acro, jazz, and ballet, and has built a strong foundation through years of dedicated training. She has successfully completed multiple exams in the Al Gilbert, ADAPT, Cecchetti and Acrobatic Arts syllabi, and her versatility has allowed her to excel in each discipline.

Her commitment and talent have been recognized through multiple awards and scholarships at dance competitions. Miss Kailey’s passion for learning continues as she works toward her goal of earning both a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and a Bachelor of Education, combining her artistry with her desire to teach.

Miss Kailey is excited to share her love of dance with her students, aiming to inspire them through the beauty, discipline, and creativity the art form provides. She hopes to encourage each dancer to discover their own unique voice and confidence through movement.

Hailey Loeppky
Jazz
Miss Hailey has focused much of her training on jazz, lyrical, and acro, developing versatility and strength in both technical and expressive styles. She has a particular passion for teaching jazz jumps and turns, guiding students to improve their precision, control, and performance quality.
Her dance experience has given her a strong understanding of how to combine technique with artistry, allowing her to help dancers not only master skills but also bring life and personality to their movements. Miss Hailey’s enthusiasm and attention to detail make her a motivating presence in the classroom.
As a teacher, Miss Hailey encourages her students to set goals, work hard, and celebrate their progress along the way. She is excited to share her love of dance and to help each dancer discover their own style and confidence.
